Moscow is over flowing with theatre and drama. The choice that one
has is fantastic. Although the city is becoming more materialistic,
the arts still play a vital role in the life of Moscow.
The Moscow Art Theatre is one of the most prominent theatres of Moscow.
There are now two important branches, and Chekhow MKhaT is considered
the best of the branches while the Gorkii Theatre is not as popular
and is down beside Tverskoi Bulvar.
If its political satire and controversy one wants to see, then the
Tagankawas theatre is where to go.
For 19th century material, head down to the Malyi Theatre, which
was founded in 1820s and has the classic Russian drama played out.
For more contemporary works, visit the Maiaskovskii and the Lenkom
theatres.
Most plays are in Russian, but if you want to relax and wind down,
then visit the Moscow Clown Theatre or the Obraztsov puppet theatre.
For the cinema goer, get yourself down to the American House of Cinema,
which is considered the most glitzy film house of Moscow. And for
much the same is the Kinomir cinema and the Pod Kupolom. For the
main American Blockbusters, the Pushkinskii Entertainment centre
has the largest Auditoreum in Moscow, and one has to check out the
cinema guide to double check that the film is in English with Russian
sub -titles.
The Illuzion as well as the Cinema Centreat Krasnaia Presnia also
show Russian made films but also have Western Art house films.
